Venice Italy has several names it goes by, two of which are the city of masks and the floating city.
Venice is a beautiful city in Italy stretched out on dozens of islands. it gets it's nicknames by the tunnels going through it. transportation is very different in this ancient city because of the canals, most people walk but you can always catch a boat taxi or trollie.
It's an ancient city, built hundreds of years ago, even with all the canals filled with water though, back when the city was starting, their only supply of fresh water was what they could collect from rain, thankfully it rains often here.
In case you're curious, there is absolutely no swimming allowed in the canals, even when the sun is blaring and it's a thousand degrees out, you won't see anyone hop into a canal for a quick cool down. If you saw the canals you'd understand why, they are filthy and if you swam in them you could get seriously sick, however if you really want to go for a swim there are beaches not to far away.
through out the cities you'll see all the stone carvings and ancient decorations to the buildings from when the city was first started, it's like walking back in history, a very beautiful history.
Of course the main language spoken here is Italian.
If you ever wanted to spend a few months in Venice you'd be surprised to discover the living cost isn't all that much higher than the U.S. (I'm currently in Florida) for instance, I pay about $1,000 a month for a 3 bedroom apartment in Daytona Florida, in Venice, depending on the location you chose, for a one bedroom apartment you'd pay between $500-800. the food is similar as well. the gas is more expensive, cloths can be if you're not bargain shopping, and entertainment can be a bit pricier but you could live on thee same budget.
This is a town of beauty, history, and architecture. it's written about all the time and is the setting to many books, but that's to be expected! It's a city that should definitely be on your places to visit before death list!
